Production Manager/Assistant Cidermaker

Texas Keeper is a small cidery in Far South Austin, Texas. We bring a winemaking approach to creating ciders that reflect the quality of good fruit. We are located on 16 acres of old ranchland with a Taproom next door to the cellar that’s open on the weekends. Weekdays are spent in production, with 3-4 vintage periods per year. Each year we produce 12-18 unique ciders that reflect that year’s growing season and time spent aging in barrel.

Our long-time beloved Production Manager is leaving after 4 years with the company. The job entails a combination of art, science and physical problem solving. The Production Manager works closely with the head cidermaker to plan production, execute the creation of great ciders, and troubleshoot the daily joys of running a cellar. This is a job for someone who likes diving into work, managing a small team, has a good palate, an organized mind, and desire to create top level cider.

This is an opportunity to join a small creative team in a growing business. We currently product 8-10K case equivalents per year

Duties include:

Managing the production and packaging of cider and apple wines

Quality control fermentations, cellar procedures, testing, and standards

Develop and blend new ciders in conjunction with the head cidermaker and cellar lead

Manage delivery operations and packaging

Record keeping

Facility, Land and Equipment Maintenance

Helping to maintain a positive work culture in line with our core values

Hiring, staffing and managing packaging, and delivery positions

 

Essential skills/qualities for the job include:

Experience working on the production side of the brewing, cider-making or winemaking field

Demonstrated attention to detail

The desire to be part of small team

Good palate

Demonstrated troubleshooting and organizational skills

Experience with managing a direct report

Experience with winery/brewery equipment and tech

Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

Ability to lift 50 lbs

Comfortable standing for long periods of time

Willing to wear a mask all day long (during Covid times)

Experience driving a forklift

 

Preferred Skills

Small Team Management

Knowledge of the trades

Experience driving a tractor

Lead Cellarhand

Duties include:

Product bottling/kegging (~ 2-3 days per week)

Labeling (~ 5 hrs/wk)

Cellar work – racking, fermentation checks, tank cleaning, etc. (2-3 day/wk, more during busier vintage times of year)

Various land maintenance, simple repair (approx. 3-5 hrs/wk)

Essential skills/qualities for the job include:

-An interest in the cidermaking/winemaking/brewing field

-Attention to detail and a commitment to quality control

-A desire to get through a task as efficiently and thoroughly as possible

-Some basic tool use/handyperson ability

-Ability to lift 50 lbs

-Clean driving record

-Comfortable standing for a total of ~ 9 hours

-General keenness!

-Willing to wear a mask all day long (during Covid times)

-Experience operating a forklift

-Desire to be part of small team making a high quality product

-Good palate and love of good food and wine

Preferred Skills

-Familiarity with winery/brewery equipment and sanitation

-Experience racking tanks and/or running packaging equipment

-Experience operating a forklift

Standard work week will be 36-40 hours per week with comp time and paid vacation and healthcare available. 15 -18 dollars per hour depending on skill set.
